What counts as a plumbing emergency
A plumbing emergency is anything that is doing damage right now or makes the home unsafe: water running where it should not, a drain backing up toward the house, no hot water in the middle of a cold snap, or a gas smell. A dripping tap or a slow drain is not an emergency and can wait — we will tell you the difference honestly so you are not paying an after-hours rate for something that could wait until morning.
Burst pipe — isolate at the meter first
If a pipe has burst, the first move is always the same: find the water meter at the front boundary, turn the handle clockwise to shut the supply, and open a tap inside to drain the remaining water and take the pressure off the break. Then call us. Most Traralgon meters are at the front boundary near the footpath; some older homes have an additional isolation valve near the hot water unit. Knowing where your meter is before a burst is worth ten minutes of your time.
Winter bursts in Traralgon are common on exposed copper runs, outdoor taps and pipes on the cold side of older weatherboard walls. We isolate, cut out the split, and repair in copper or approved fittings, then pressure-test before we sign the supply back on.
Blocked drain backing up
A blocked drain becomes an emergency when it backs up toward the house — a gurgling toilet, water rising in the shower recess, or the overflow relief gully running. We clear with a jetter, run CCTV if it keeps blocking, and tell you whether it is a private drain we fix or a Gippsland Water main. No hot water

A leak that will not stop
A leak under a sink or behind a wall that you cannot stop at the fixture isolator is an emergency. Shut the water at the meter, contain the water, and call. We trace the leak, isolate the section, and repair — and where a leak is hidden we use leak detection to find it before we cut into a wall or dig up a floor.
