Hot water rebates Victoria

Victoria runs a hot water rebate pathway for eligible heat-pump and solar hot water systems. This page explains how the pathway works in plain terms, dated August 2026, and links you to the official government source — we do not invent rebate dollar amounts, because they change.

Dated August 2026. Rebate amounts and eligibility change — always confirm on the official energy.vic.gov.au (or current Victorian government) source before deciding. We do not quote dollar figures here.

What the rebate covers

The Victorian hot water rebate (the Solar Hot Water Rebate / heat-pump pathway) is designed to help households replace an old, inefficient hot water system with an eligible heat-pump or solar hot water system. The intent is to cut the energy a household uses for hot water — heat-pump units use roughly a third of the electricity of a standard electric storage tank. The rebate is administered through the Victorian Government energy programs, and the eligibility and the amount are set by the program, not by the installer.

Who is generally eligible

Eligibility typically turns on the household (owner-occupier and income thresholds often apply), the existing system (usually an old electric or gas storage system being replaced), and the new product (an eligible heat-pump or solar hot water system on the approved list). The exact rules change, so we point you to the official source to confirm before you commit. We do not promise eligibility — we help you check it.

How we fit in

We install the eligible heat-pump or solar hot water system, size it to the household, connect it to the existing plumbing, and sign off the compliance. We will talk you through the rebate pathway and point you to the official energy.vic.gov.au source for the current amounts and eligibility, but we will not invent a dollar figure to win the job. The rebate is applied for through the government program; we supply and install the product.

Heat-pump vs solar hot water

Heat-pump hot water pulls heat from the air and uses a compressor, like a reverse refrigerator — it works at night and on overcast days, which suits the Latrobe Valley. Solar hot water uses roof collectors and needs sun and a booster for cloudy stretches. Both can be eligible for the rebate; the right choice depends on the roof, the household size, and the hot water pattern. We size and quote both honestly.

Why we do not quote the rebate amount

Rebate amounts and eligibility change, and an out-of-date dollar figure on a plumber's website is worse than no figure — it sets a wrong expectation. We link to the official source, we help you confirm eligibility, and we factor the confirmed rebate into the final quote. That way the number you decide on is the real one.
