What residential plumbing covers in Traralgon
Residential plumbing is everything between the water meter at the front boundary and the last tap at the back of the house. In Traralgon that means a mix of eras: weatherboard homes near the CBD with galvanised supply lines and terracotta sewers, 1970s brick veneer with copper and early PVC, and the newer west-side estates with full PVC and HDPE. Each era fails differently, and a residential plumber who only knows one of them misses things.
The common residential calls are blocked kitchen and bathroom drains, leaking taps and mixers, running toilets, hot water replacement, burst pipes in winter, and roof and stormwater work after Gippsland rain. We also do the smaller renovations — swapping a vanity, moving a laundry tub, replacing a toilet suite — and we sign off the plumbing compliance work the same way we do on a big job.
Older Traralgon homes and what goes wrong
The weatherboard stock near the centre was built when galvanised water supply was standard. Galvanised pipe rusts from the inside, so water pressure drops, the flow goes brown, and eventually the line pinches off altogether. We replace those runs in copper or, more often now, in approved PVC and PEX, and we isolate and drain down properly so the rest of the house is not left without water. Terracotta sewers in the same homes are the other big one — root intrusion, cracked joints and collapsed sections that show up as a gurgling toilet or a slow laundry drain.
1970s brick and the newer estates
The brick veneer belt from the seventies has copper supply that is usually sound but suffers at the joints, and the early PVC sewers are now old enough to crack and droop. Hot water units from this era have all been replaced at least once, and the second generation is now failing. Out west, the newer estates are simpler plumbing but bigger — larger blocks mean longer stormwater runs, and the modern continuous-flow gas hot water units lock out if they are not serviced. We work across all three eras and price each one honestly.
Renovations and compliance
If you are renovating a bathroom, kitchen or laundry, the plumbing is the part you cannot see and the part that has to be signed off properly. We rough in the new layout, set the falls, connect to the existing sewer and stormwater, and lodge the compliance work so the job is legal and insurable. We will also tell you, before you commit to a layout, whether the existing drain will support what you want — moving a toilet three metres across a slab is a different job to swapping a vanity.
Rental homes and urgent repairs
A lot of Traralgon homes are rentals, and urgent repairs there sit under the Victorian Residential Tenancies Act — a burst pipe, a blockage, a total hot water failure or a gas fault is an urgent repair the landlord cannot reasonably refuse. We can attend, isolate the problem, and give you and the agent a clear written scope so the urgent-repair process is straightforward.
For a burst pipe or a total loss of hot water, isolate at the water meter first, then call us on 0407 977 529.
